Performers

Hovey Dean Corbin, Jr. Is a native of Albuquerque.   He earned bachelor's degrees in 1995 in both vocal performance and instrumental music education (percussion emphasis) from the University of New Mexico.  Since then, he has taught band and guitar at the Albuquerque Academy and performs with the LINKS! Percussion Ensemble.  He also plays in the Vespus Marimba Band and with Musical Theatre Southwest alongside his wife, Alexis, a percussionist trained in music therapy.  His family includes aspiring drummer, Hovey Jude, daughter Leedy, born in 2002, and the newest member Asher Austin, born in 2005.
Dennis Davies-Wilson Has been performing as a woodwind specialist with Música Antigua since 1988. He holds a Master of Music from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Library Science (Music Specialization) from Indiana University. He is currently Library Director of the UNM-Los Alamos Branch library. Also a bassoonist, Dennis has performed in the Opera Southwest Orchestra and has been a guest bassoonist with the Santa Fe Symphony and the Sangre de Cristo Chorale.
Ruth Helgeson

Ruth majored in music in the 1970's on the French horn at the University of Minnesota.  Longing for a more "intimate" musical experience, she taught herself to play the recorder and performed for seven years with Concentus Musicus of the Twin Cities, directed by Arthur Maud and more recently with Eglantine Consort (of the Twin Cities).  Always drawn to unique sounds, Ruth performed Central Javanese gamelan music with the Indonesian Performing Arts Association of Minnesota for ten years and was featured at a special Halloween performance in 2004, playing her theremin for Minnesota Public Radio's Morning Show.

David McGuire

Tenor, holds a bachelor's degree in theory and composition from the University of North Texas.  His music has been performed in the Netherlands, Australia, Vancouver, and Corrales.  He has sung in many ensembles, including New York's Manhattan Vocal Ensemble, Hartford’s Cathedral Singers, and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.  With Musica Antigua, he performs on period instruments, including recorder, shawm, portative organ, vihuela and percussion.  David is an Associate Director with UNM’s Information Technologies department.

Art Sheinberg A founding member of Música Antigua, specializes in playing medieval and Renaissance string instruments.  He has a Master of Music degree in doublebass performance from UNM, and played both doublebass and cello as a member of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra for 15 years.  He teaches orchestra in the Albuquerque Public Schools, has served as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Southwest, and has composed and arranged numerous works for school orchestra.  In 2003, he was one of seven teachers to be awarded the prestigious Golden Apple Award for excellence in public school teaching in the state of New Mexico.

Colleen Sheinberg Soprano and instrumentalist, has been performing early music since 1971, and is a founding member of Música Antigua.  A graduate of Southern Methodist University and UNM, she holds master's degrees in both anthropology and piano performance.  She is active as a chamber musician, teacher and accompanist, and has performed with the Desert Chorale, Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque and New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.  She has given guest performances at the University of North Texas, Louisiana Tech University, University of Arkansas, and Fort Lewis College.   She is currently on the faculty of the University of New Mexico, where she directs the UNM Early Music Ensemble and is a coach-accompanist of vocal students.

Guest Artists

Kathy Wimmer Kathy Millé Wimmer has been acting in and around Albuquerque for many years and is a member of various musical groups. She was most recently seen as Yente in Landmark Musicals' production of Fiddler on the Roof. Some of her musical endeavors include playing folk harp with the Canterbury Harp Ensemble and a variety of instruments with the early music quartet Cantores Festivi and UNM's Early Music Ensemble. By day, she can be found in the production department of KNME/New Mexico PBS.
